Sydney, Australia

We are in Sydney. We are staying in St Leonards, North of Sydney driving I caught a glimpse of Harbour bridge and the Opera House, we settled in the apartment which is very nice. Because we have a car we visited the Blue Mountains. It was a large forested canyon with hiking trails and cooler weather you felt you are in the fall. The views were nice but I myself wasn’t stunned by it.

We also spent time doing lots of homework as we have good internet connection and 2 desk to spread. We had to go to Bondi beach. I was pretty standard but it is the beach of Sydney. The water was not very warm but I did swim, there were lots of people surfing.

It was time to visit some of the most iconic buildings of the town, you know which one I am talking about. It was Sydney harbour and The Sydney opera house. The opera house is meant to look like the sails of the yachts passing by, it was designed by Danish Jørn Ultzon, winner of the international design competition (233 people from 32 countries entered it). Construction began in 1959, they had a lot of problems constructing the shells, they had to change the original design. It was finished in 1973 and cost 102million (they had predicted at the beginning of the project that it would be finished in 1963 and cost 7million). On our way to the harbor we stopped and listen to a didgeridoo performance, it was the first time I had ever seen one live. It was cool because he made it sound more modern with modern tunes. As my souvenir from Australia I wanted to buy a boomerang, and there it was the perfect one for the perfect price. I couldn’t help feel like the luckiest person.

We did the Harbour bridge every way possible, under, over, across. Its an arch steel bridge, with pillars 89m high on each end. It was completed in 1932, it cost 6.25million Australian pounds which they finished to pay it off in 1988. 1400men worked on it and 16 died. More than 200,000 cars cross it everyday. It is black because it was the only color of pain they had in such big quantity. We even took a cruise at sunset, pretty nice!

We also spent some time walking around the center, and went inside Saint Mary’s Cathedral (lots of Chinese were visiting it the day we did!). They have the QVB, Queen Victoria Building, finished in 1898, its a mall but old with fantastic architecture and very well preserved. Lots of stores in it and also patisseries and tea. And we strolled the main shopping street.
